He was the son of a brewer from Bremen. After serving as in the cavalry in Luneborg, he would travel to Uppsala to become a merchant, then a city councilor.

Eden: his former surname
Berg: (Swedish) mountain

After becoming ennobled and adding the berg to his surname, he would purchase manors in Uppland and Skåne.
