This was the name of a famous Sephardic Jewish family known for its rabbis, scholars, physicians, and merchants.
Abraham Aboab
Born in Aragon, he would receive a tower in Altea from King James I in 1263 and the surrounding dairy farms. As such, he received the noble surname Aboab. There has been speculation where that name came from. It may have been a Hispanicization of the Arabic name \”Abdulwahab\” or from the Tunisian town of Umm al-Abohav. It is unknown whether Abraham\’s family originally came from Tunisia, or whether the name \”Abdulwahab\” was a name in his family prior to the Spanish Reconquista.
