Etymology

Ancient Greek: nepho-: cloud

+

Ancient Greek: polis: city

Wiktionary

Definition

noun. A city that is located in the sky, specifically within the stratosphere.

Example:

The sky would be the site of the next frontier for the world\’s superpowers where they will build nephopoles.

Equivalent:

sky city, cloud city

Commentary:

I discussed this concept, and used this neologism, in an article on another blog about determining whether it was possible to live in the sky. Since it would be possible within the stratosphere which is where clouds accumulate, then it would be suitable to refer to these innovations as \”cloud-cities.\”
